GRANT BENEFITS from 1999

After the neighborhood was listed as a historic district in the National Register of Historic Places, the Arapahoe Acres Historic Preservation Network submitted a grant application to the State Historical Fund. The goal of the grant was to create a completely voluntary program in which homeowners could learn to define and preserve the unique nature of Arapahoe Acres.

Most historic districts date to the 19th - early 20th centuries and struggle to restore and reconstruct lost or seriously eroded historic and architectural integrity. Since Arapahoe Acres is more recent, and relatively intact, it represents a unique opportunity to preserve a historic neighborhood which still retains a great deal of its original integrity.

Specifically, the grant requested funds to create:

— 2-year program demonstrated the importance and value of historic preservation and developed a culture of community preservation.

— illustrated companion volume to the existing history book called "Arapahoe Acres Style" showed the unique architectural style of Arapahoe Acres and helped homeowners understand how to preserve their home's architectural integrity.

—"Mini-Grant" program to financially assist homeowners with planning and executing home preservation projects.

— website and educational workshops shared information about each home preservation project with the neighborhood and community at large.
